Project overview

The objective of this KNX Awards 2026-nominated project was to improve the efficiency of the building’s cooling and heating systems by providing a unified view of energy performance in a single platform. To achieve this, the solution implemented integrates data from M-Bus heat and cooling energy meters into the building management system (BMS), enabling real-time monitoring and centralized energy management. The Palacio de Deportes de Granada facility manager can now use this information to identify inefficiencies, optimize system operation, and make informed decisions that reduce energy consumption and improve overall building performance.

Technical solution using Intesis

The main challenge was integrating heating and cooling different M-Bus energy meters from various systems into a single management platform. It was necessary to obtain accurate real-time energy consumption data without relying on isolated systems or manual readings. The solution also had to make the data directly available to the building’s Power Management System (PMS) and send it to the BMS to support operational decisions.

Iridium selected one of the 700 series Intesis gateways for metering to connect and integrate the energy meters with the monitoring system.
Thanks to this solution, the sports center facility manager now benefits from:

  • Centralized visibility: All heating and cooling energy consumption data from the PMS was integrated into the BMS, eliminating the need to check separate systems.
  • Real-time data: Continuous consumption monitoring helps facility managers detect deviations or inefficiencies immediately.
  • Energy optimization: Access to accurate data allows for the adjustment of HVAC operations to reduce unnecessary consumption and improve the building's overall efficiency.
  • Scalability and interoperability: The Intesis gateway facilitates the integration of various protocols (Modbus, M-Bus, pulse) and meters type, allowing the system to be expanded or adapted to the building's future needs.
  • Improved decision-making: Access to centralized, reliable information enables building managers to make faster, well-informed operational decisions.
  • Lower operating costs: Continuous energy performance adjustments contribute to more efficient management and cost savings over the medium and long term.

Why Intesis was chosen

Iridium selected Intesis for its proven product quality, positive experience from previous projects, and ease of integration and commissioning. Specifically, the Intesis 700 series gateway for metering was chosen for its ability to integrate multiple M-Bus devices, simplifying the overall system architecture and reducing cabling requirements, installation effort and labor time.
